On our trip to Little Rock, Arkansas, we had quite a few places we wanted to check out and explore. Our resort was in Hot Springs and Little Rock was only 1 hour away. We began our journey with the Arkansas State Capitol bldg. Arkansas is the childhood home of President, William Jefferson Clinton and Governor, Michael Dale Huckabee. The state is very proud to have such prominent figures come out it!
I have such a fascination with state houses. The amount of marble each one uses is mind blowing! But, the effect of the final look is stunningly, beautiful and memorable. We went there on a Saturday, so no one was there except the security. It was nice to be able to walk around, read information and snap photos without other people around!.
Out next stop was downtown Little Rock, but along the way we met a few duck friends. We even got a few glimpses of the leaves starting to change...The downtown area is a hip and happening place. there were several fascinating bridges. We walk across Junction bridge and got some awesome pics of the bridge on the other side! On our venture of downtown, we discovered a hidden gem on our hike...a small waterfall and swamp area. As you continue down the wooden walking path, you were greeted with another bridge and a secluded swamp area with great views of the lake.
The hi-light of the day trip was being able to visit The Old Mill. It was raining that day, so besides a couple of people we had the whole place to ourselves. Let me tell you, the pictures don't do this place justice. It is one of the most beautiful secrete places I have ever seen. The original mill was featured in the movie, "Gone With The Wind". The structure that is there now, is a reconstructed mill of the original. It didn't matter to us; it was stunning and spectacular! Since it was fall, there weren't as many flowers in bloom, but I got a few pics of them. But the greenery was amazing and having that bridge front and center with the lake as a backdrop was breathtaking. My husband, Vel said it was one of his favorite places we have ever visited. I would like to go back again, in the spring to see the flowers in bloom!
